The house, its gardens and its chestnut walk have hosted thousands of celebrations: weddings, banquets, medieval dinners and family gatherings. Everything you see was built slowly, season after season.

Four decades celebrating life.
Hostería de Castañeda was born in late 1983 from the hand of Luis Alvear Fernández-Pacheco. Since then it has been a landmark of Cantabrian hospitality, awarded both nationally and internationally.
Awards and recognition
Medal of Tourist Merit, Master of Popularity and the Golden Crown of Gastronomy were awarded to Luis Alvear for a lifetime devoted to hospitality. The house also welcomed King Juan Carlos I.
The Chapel of San Juan
Inside the grounds stands the small chapel of San Juan, with its own altarpiece. Many couples choose it for an intimate ceremony steps away from the gardens where the celebration continues.
Weddings, catering and restaurant
For decades the house ran its own restaurant and catering service, serving Cantabrian cuisine at palaces and estates across the region. That know-how still shapes every event we host today.
